All started in early 1925, the Great Race of Mercy took place in Alaska. In that icy cold winter, diphtheria had taken lives of 4 children in city of Nome and threatened the other 20,000 inhabitants. The terrible atmosphere covered the whole city. No transport by sea, neither by air nor by land, 20 mushers with 150 Siberia huskeys bravely and boldly took the responsibility of delivering diphtheria antitoxin from 674 miles away from Nome and this task must be fulfilled within 6 days before the antitoxin negated the effect.
In long dark night, nobody can help them to position the location, but 150 huskeys stood out and with uncomparable courage, loyalty and endurance, the 150 sled dogs traversed dangerous Norton Sound and safely brought back the antitoxin to Nome in 5 and half days. The rest 20,000 inhabitants were saved. In memory of these 150 dogs and this heroic success, people cast a bronze statue of husky and put it in New York's Central Park.
